I'm in the mood for some excellent rock music. I've been really digging the Black Keys and The Beatles lately. I can't say that I hate it, actually, I love when I get into this mood. It usually means that I am sick of the current situation that I am in, it usually means that I am ready for something new and that I need my music to reflect that feeling. That is probably one of my favorite things about music, is that there is something for every mood that I have; pop, blues, jazz, rock, indie, you name it, i love it. I have even started to listen to some old country, more bluegrass than anything, but country none the less!

I'm terrible at keeping things up to date...
Lots of things have changed since last post. For instance, my sister is now married and has a new last name, I now have bangs, and yet again...winter time approaches. However! With winter also comes dreary sounding music, but dreary it is not! I love me some Bon Iver on the days when the sun just doesn't want to come out. Call me creepy, but I love the way it sounds and the way it is different than when you hear Justin Vernon sing on a sunny day. He sounds better on gray sky days.
My love for The Tallest Man on Earth grows stronger every day. There's just something about Kristian's swedish twang that really gets me goin'. In newer music, however, I'm really feeling the sounds of John & Jehn. Ahh french people...how i love you. You just get how I feel musically, and you usually get it everytime. John and Jehn are like a Phoenix of sorts, but with girls and deeper sounding lyrics and sound. Almost like Phoenix + The National = John and Jehn. Check them out!!

It's been a while
Let me just begin by saying that although I was not overly impressed with their performance, the Dum Dum Girls (opener to Vampire Weekend), were actually a pretty okay chick band to listen to. They seemed to have a wierd etherial vibe to them, almost like listening to Camera Obscura, or a chick version of Fleet Foxes. To look at, they seemed to not be having fun at all. If you are so blessed as to having rocking out and performing be your job, at least act like you enjoy the instrument that you play. The bassist, Bambi, looked like she was about to fall asleep, even on some pretty good songs, nothing impressed her. I would listen to their albums, absolutely, but I would never see them again in concert.
Beach House, another story completely. They had their own light shows and everything. Not that a light show can make or break a performance, but it definitely adds a bit of flare, especially if tickets were purchased. The band was good, but honestly, not overly memorable. I was alright with the lead singer, but I could understand anything she was saying. I deem them excellent background music.
Vampire Weekend. Along with Ezra's witty banter and a whole lot of fist pumping encouragement, the band was on fo their entire performance. Playing to their audience, VW managed to get the Bank of America Pavillion in Boston absolutely crazy when singing such songs as Ladies of Cambidge and Walcott. The sing a'longs were heartily encouraged during these songs as well as other favorites such as One, and Horchata. It was my first time ever seeing them live and I recommend seeing them to any. They gave an excellent performance and played at least 15-20 songs (which basically covers most of them)!
on to other news, my computer had a deadly virus and I am still trying to recover some lost files and folders...and lots of lost music! If you have any new group suggestions let me know!

phoenix phoenix phoenix. love love love.
i've been trying to start listening to the music that i usually just push to the side. i'm constantly on new music watch so i'm constantly getting new music and listening to it all as it comes, i lose track of the older stuff!! so i am now trying to make a more concerted effort to listen to my older stuff.
one album that i found, the proclaimers, was one of my first albums i owned and thought was great in 4th grade, but seriously not that great! haha, it was quite painful actually,haha!! i've been listening to my mom's fave, meat loaf, and some other things like the cranberries, barenaked ladies, and random other things like rufus wainwright and fionna apple.
i'm still always on the watch for new music so if you have any suggestions, please toss them my way!

geting to know you, getting to know all about you
So I realize that this blog has sort of become my soap box for the artists that I love, and I want to be fair to everyone and all types of music!
First of all, my one and only plug for this post, but if you are trying to get into the alternative scene, check out Camera Obscura, they aren't as up against the wall alternative as other artists i've been talking about recently, they are very instrumental and her voice is really easy to listen to. I promise you won't be dissapointed.
Okay, here is the challenge I give you for this week:
We have all become too accustomed to our ipods, mp3s, walkmen and discmen. I say get rid of them for the week, or at least, get rid of your ability to shuffle or make playlists. Somewhere along the line we got caught up with the newest gadget and the newest accessory, but we forgot about what was truly important; the music. Some people might look at this statement as false, they have compiled hundreds of albums and thousands of songs so they feel that they have more use of their gadgets because they have all of this music at their fingertips. I am one of those people, however, I also find that I forget a lot of the music that I compile over time. A ton of my music gets lost in my ipod because I get something to listen to that is newer and better.
So the challenge that I offer you is this; Listen to an older album that you have. Listen to the whole thing non-stop, no rewinding and no fast forwarding through songs you don't really like. Find the reason why you loved this album to begin with. Listen to a new album that you have or an older one, I don't care. Just make sure that it is an album that you haven't heard in a while. You'd be surprised at all of the music you missed hearing and all the music you'll remember that you loved. Maybe you'll save your harddrive some space by replaying old music instead of constantly uploading or downloading the newest and hottest tracks!

Knotty Pine
First off I'd like to open with the fun news that I got an interview at the Ogunquit Playhouse for a summer position being a marketing administrator! Who cares if it's poor pay! I need experience, and what better way to spend the summer but with a pretty reputable theatre group on the beach?! Exactly.
Music?? New stuff people, so listen up!
Currently I can't get enough of Noah and the Whale, their lyrics have a touch of emo, but the melodies are hard to forget and the instrumentals sing a song of their own. Beirut comes in at number two, with their acordian and french singing...I can't get enough of them! They sound eerie, but I love it. A mixed effort between friends Kendra and Ryan got me into the New Pornographers and also My Morning Jacket; I'm still feeling my way through these two bands, but so far so good. Kendra also just sent me a ton of stuff by Gregory Alan Isakov, I have yet to sit and solidly listen to the full album That Sea, The Gambler but from what I have listened to I like. I find that I am very attracted to folk music mixed with the alternative...folk alternative if you will. I can't help it, I love me a fiddle.
ALSO...I love Dolly Parton. I know my sister will leap for joy hearing me finally admit this, but I love her. Not to the extreme where I'd be going to Dollywood anytime soon, but maybe one day. Classics like Jolene are constantly in my head! Plus, I can't get enough of her and Kenny Rogers singing Islands in the Stream. I was a huge fan of the Feist and Constantines remake, but nothing compares to the upbeat and fun loving duet that Dolly and Kenny sing together.
Rilo Kiley and White Rabbits along with Feist and Bon Iver making huge combacks this week in my most played category. I'm usually a playlist kind of girl, I like knowing what's coming up, but lately I've just been putting my iPod on all songs shuffle and seeing what I get. I like all of my music so I really can't go wrong with it, but it's hilarious sometimes when I hear the hidden gems that I haven't listened to in upwards of 4 years....like N'Sync "Two of Us"...I love this song and heard it this morning on the way to Concord.
Other things to keep in mind:
Dark Was The Night--a 2 disc compilation of indie/alternative bands and artists who made a compilation just to make one, it's really awesome
Spoon--always a favorite
Cat Power
Dirty Projectors&David Byrne
Grizzly Bear

I'm just bad news
I am on a whole new music kick, and I love it. For the last couple of months I've really been trying to explore the Alternative world of music, in doing so i was opened up to the world of LaBlogotheque, a french blogging site that posts videos and shoots of up and coming bands or bands that are just awesome that come through Paris on tours. It's really awesome, Ryan and I first found them through youtube looking at some Phoenix shows, but I found some incredible bands on there.

Friday I'm in love
I must say, this internship is pretty kick ass. I am learning a lot about things I've never done before, some more office/desk work like to be expected in an internship, but some other things are really cool. Currently I've been researching different group itineraries for grout tours, like what people could do on an arts and theatre tour or maple sugaring, so basically I've been researching my days away. It seems like it would be boring for someone to do this 3 days a week, but I must say, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I don't do much besides reading spanish and watching and analyzing films, so this marketing and research thing is completely new to me! Film school is definitely on my radar, but not for another couple of years. What I really want to do in the meantime is move to a differnet country and work there, maybe marketing people to come to the US?? I don't know, I really like the marketing side of tourism, and who knows, maybe it'll be in my immediate future after graduation in may.

Posting blues
Bah, sadly I'm almost positive that this blog is never read, which...let's be serious, isn't that surprising. All I do, normally, is complain a lot about most of the things going on in my life. I am a complainer. 2010 resolution: stop complaining as much and think of the good things that happened during my day!
It was about a year ago that I was frolicking in Liverpool. That is just wierd to think about! I can't believe it has been one full year since I was beginning my semester in Granada. I wish I was back there, but I really love the new things that I am beginning to do here as well. Mainly I just want the warm weather and beach back in my life,haha! But seriously, it's sort of nuts how much can change in one year. Where will I be next year? I'm excited to see where '10 brings me.
Big things happening this semester at the good ol' UNH. Here's a list of the most exciting/things that will be keeping me busy this semester:
-interning with the NH Division of Travel and Tourism Development
- tutoring two highschoolers in spanish
-babysitting a 2 yr old and a 5 yr old
-working at the mailroom
-3 classes complete with lots of reading
I need to a good and busy semester, it will make graduation that much sweeter! (p.s. I cannot wait for that day, may 22 can't come soon enough!!!!!) I just want to get out there and be done with it, I love college, but I really just want to be able to be on my own and get stuff done my way and not really have to worry about what grade I get on the next test.
Now, because I procrastinate and it is Sunday, I must do some homework!!!!!!! I hope people actually start reading this, I'll try and find better things to write about to draw attention.
